Course Description

Students will participate in the daily operations of a high-end full-service equine referral hospital located next to Belmont Park. They will learn alongside faculty, interns and staff in the triage, diagnosis, surgical and medical treatment and clinical care of equine patients. The student will acquire multidisciplinary sports medicine and lameness experience given the diverse caseload. Students will participate in the clinical interpretation of imaging modalities including radiography, ultrasonography, nuclear scintigraphy and MRI. The focus of this clinical rotation is for students to acquire the knowledge, skillset and thought processes necessary to evaluate, treat and manage elective and emergent cases. Daily stall side rounds will provide in-depth discussion and education on clinical cases and will challenge students to think critically about them. Housing will be provided. Travel required, student responsible for arrangement.
Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: VTMED 5520.
Permission Note Enrollment limited to: fourth-year veterinary students.
