Immunology in Animal Health and Disease

Covers selected concepts in immunology, with a focus on those that are important to domestic animal health and disease prevention. Students learn how to apply their knowledge of immunological principles to understand current literature, research, and practices.


Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: two semesters of majors-level biology.

Outcomes

  • Identify the different types of immune cells and their function.
  • Describe how innate and adaptive immune systems function in defending the host against infections and in immune disorders.
  • Discuss the role of vaccines in disease prevention.
  • Recognize how the host environment can modulate immune responses.
  • Apply their understanding of immunology to veterinary case studies and animal management scenarios.
