This course will examine the neural and molecular mechanisms of decision making across a variety of animal species and humans. The course involves the critical reading and discussion of classic and contemporary papers in this subject. Topics will include the neural mechanisms of motivation, attention, working memory, risk taking and neuroeconomics.


Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: BIONB 2220.

Outcomes

  • Investigate the molecular and neural mechanism regulating decision making in the nervous system.
  • Critically read and comprehend primary literature.
  • Understand general concepts of how the nervous system works and to discuss these concepts verbally.
  • Learn how to design experiments to test scientific hypothesis.
