Course Description
Course information provided by the 2014-2015 Catalog.
This graduate seminar will explore the origin and character of liberal political thought in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. We will read classic liberal texts as well as recent histories of liberalism. While the focus will be mainly on European thinkers, we will also consider the relationship between liberalism and imperialism, and the global spread of liberal ideas.
