Virtual Experience of Designed Environments

Course Description

Course information provided by the 2014-2015 Catalog.

This course will immerse students in advanced techniques of design communication and evaluation for simulation-based empirical research on user experience in built environments. Through lectures, readings, demos, and hands on projects, the course explores advanced digital media simulations for design.

Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: working knowledge and experience in 3D modeling and rendering.

Outcomes

• Students will demonstrate a coherent understanding of design and design research with advanced computer mediated 3D visualization technologies in the field of architecture, interior design, and user experience/interface design.
• Students will apply analytic knowledge from readings and discussions to critically review and evaluate existing theories in interdisciplinary areas of environment and behavior, environmental psychology, design communication and human-computer interaction.
• Students will effectively express design ideas using storyboarding and interactive visualization techniques obtained from demos, and hands on exercises.
• Students will explore viable and innovative research topics from readings, lectures, demos, and discussions on the current status of digital media for design.
• Students will demonstrate the ability to advance 3D modeling and programming skills with initial demos and online resources.
