A "high performance building" is one that integrates and optimizes all major high-performance building attributes, including energy efficiency, aesthetics, life-cycle performance, cost-effectiveness, environmental impact, and occupant safety, comfort and productivity.  This course introduces design strategies and system approaches to create, evaluation and make design recommendations for high performance buildings.


Outcomes

  • Develop a comprehensive and integral understanding of buildings elements and building systems, and their implications for the planning, design, and operation processes.
  • Explain the implications of a variety of design and system strategies for the performance of building; conduct building performance evaluation; analyze the pros and cons of different design strategies and building systems solutions; and make planning, design and operation recommendations.
  • Compose building element and system analysis reports; compose building performance diagnosis reports.
