This course explores the wide variety of languages indigenous to the Americas, in terms of linguistic structure as well as social, historical, and political perspectives. Materials will be approached within the framework of linguistic theory, but no prior linguistic background is required, and there are no prerequisites. In addition, no previous knowledge of any Native American languages is presumed.
