Engineering General Chemistry

CHEM 2090 is the lecture component of Engineering General Chemistry. Covers basic chemical concepts, such as reactivity and bonding of molecules, introductory quantum mechanics, and intermolecular forces in liquids and solids and gases. Attention will be focused on aspects and applications of chemistry most pertinent to engineering.

Enrollment Information REF-F25 Enrollment limited to: Engineering students or written permission from the College of Engineering.

Fees REF-FA25 Course fee, $20. Lab fee (non-refundable) covers cost of safety goggles, lab apron, and breakage.

If you wish to be considered for placement in CHEM 2090 for Fall 2025, please add your name to the CHEM 2090 wait list at https://chemlabs.arts.cornell.edu/waitlist.cfm by August 25th, 2025. Students may select multiple lab times on their waitlist entry. Space permitting, students on the waitlist can be placed into CHEM 2090 after first-year student pre-enrollment in July.
