Survey of major employment-law issues with a focus on those affecting start-up companies. Topics covered include the line between employees, partners, and independent contractors; the default rule of employment at will and the common law of unjust dismissal; trade secrets and restrictive covenants; employee free speech, privacy, and drug testing; sex harassment and gender stereotyping; FLSA regulation of minimum wage and overtime hours for exempt employees; and employer references and defamation law.
