ECE 5580

Course information provided by the 2018-2019 Catalog.

This course builds on physics of semiconductors, particularly that of compound semiconductors. The course provides a comprehensive and comparative understanding of a series of devices made of compound semiconductors in comparison to the prevalent elementary semiconductor Si. The focused device types include logic electronics, analog electronics, power electronics, thermoelectronics, photodetectors and light emitting diodes. Energy band diagram is the essential concept/tool used in this course. Discussions of these devices/applications will be placed in the context of advancement of materials and technology development.
