Course Description
Course information provided by the 2018-2019 Catalog.
To develop an understanding of the mechanical behavior of solids within the context of a 3D continuum mathematical framework. The course aims to develop the ability to rigorously describe and/or predict the deformation and failure of solids using the concepts of linear elasticity, plasticity, and fracture. The course is intended to provide a strong foundation for future courses and practice, and to improve the ability to utilize computers to address real-world problems in mechanics.
Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: MATH 2940, ENGRD 2020, ENGRD 3200.
Outcomes
- The course is intended to introduce students to the necessary tools for rigorously describing the deformation and failure of solids, and provide the necessary foundation for future courses and practice.
When Offered Fall, Summer. Offered in summer through the Engineering Cooperative Program.
Regular Academic Session. Choose one lecture and one discussion.
