Course Description
Course information provided by the 2017-2018 Catalog.
This course introduces students to the mathematical framework of continuum solid mechanics. Topics include: infinitesimal stresses and strains, coordinate transformations, constitutive relationships, yield criteria, elementary boundary value problems, and introductory fracture mechanics.
Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: MATH 2940, ENGRD 2020. Recommended prerequisite: Previous computer programming.
Outcomes
- The course is intended to introduce students to the necessary tools for rigorously describing the deformation and failure of solids, and provide the necessary foundation for future courses and practice.
