Course Description

The 19th century has been the century of the novel all over Europe, and especially in France. This class provides an opportunity to read (in the original) several narrative masterworks. We will study at least three complete novels, as well as some additional excerpts. Authors under consideration could include Stendhal, Honoré de Balzac, Gustave Flaubert, Victor Hugo, or Emile Zola.
Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: FREN 2310, or CASE Q++, or permission of instructor.
