Course information provided by the 2015-2016 Catalog.

This interdisciplinary class provides a sound introduction to the rich literature and culture of Haiti, from the late 18th Century-when the island was a French colony called Saint-Domingue- to the contemporary era.  Key themes (voodoo, for instance), or major historical events (such as the 2010 earthquake) and figures (e.g. Toussaint Louverture) will be mainly approached through the lens of literature and the arts, with additional insight coming from social sciences (esp. anthropology, history,...).
