ECE 5310

Course information provided by the 2015-2016 Catalog.

Introduces the basic concepts of quantum optics and quantum electronics necessary for understanding the behavior of optical fields in photonic and optoelectronic devices and systems. Topics include quantization of the electromagnetic field, quantum mechanical properties of photon states, vacuum fluctuations, noise and quantum Langevin equations, matter-photon interactions, phasesensitive and phase-insensitive optical amplifiers, direct and coherent photon detection, lasers, parametric oscillators, and photonic devices for quantum information processing.

Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: ECE 4070 or PHYS 4443.
