Works intensely on conversational Mandarin focusing on standard pronunciation and differences in vocabulary and grammar between Cantonese and Mandarin.  Ample opportunities will be given to practice everyday Mandarin with accuracy and fluency in and out of class.  It is a fast-track course, aiming to achieve intermediate or high intermediate conversational proficiency in just one semester.


Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: for students who are fluent Cantonese speakers with intermediate literacy skills or have the equivalent ability as determined through a placement test.  Previous Mandarin exposure is helpful but not necessary.  This is a purely speaking and listening course.  No character writing will be required but will be offered as as option.
