Human Genetics

A course designed for non-majors with a background in science.  Lectures provide the technical background needed to understand recent scientific papers as well as the controversial personal, social and legal implications of modern genetics.


Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: BIOMG 1350 or two majors level biology courses.

Outcomes

  • To gain a basic knowledge of core concepts and methods in Human Genetics and Genomics.
  • To be able to discuss intelligently the ethical, legal and social implications of the growing use of Genetics in medicine and forensics.
  • To be able to read and interpret articles in recent research literature and to use human genetics databases.
