The British in India, 1750-1830

Examines the growth of British power in India before 1830.  Topics include: the sequence and causes of historical conquests, the British-Indian army, colonial legal regimes and knowledge systems, and the social life of colonial towns.  Students will undertake their own research paper on a topic of their choice.
